Information For Graduates

Before Graduation

If you plan to participate in the commencement ceremony, please follow these instructions.

Apply for graduation.

You will be contacted through your Zane State College email account with the petition instructions for each term. Review your degree audit with your program advisor and complete the online Petition to Graduate by the required date. Read more at My ZSC.

Review your petition email confirmation.

You will receive a confirmation email to let you know you petitioned successfully. Be sure to review and save the email confirmation. Reply if there are any errors.

Update your contact information.

A current address is required for the mailing of your official diploma and alumni mailings. Update your information on My ZSC. Please log in to My ZSC. In the top right log-in box select the My profile and settings link. You will find Contact Information on the left, and then a drop-down to verify the address on file.

Pick up tickets.

Commencement ticket distribution begins at The Campus Bookstore on April 18. You can get up to five tickets for your special guests. All tickets must be picked up by April 28.
  • A photo ID is required to receive your tickets (student IDs accepted).
  • You will not be required to present a ticket to be admitted and participate in Commencement.
  • Children who are three years old or younger who are seated on a lap are not required to have a ticket.
You may request additional tickets on the ticket sign out sheet, however, there is no guarantee that extra tickets will be available.
    • May 4: Grads who have requested extra tickets will be notified of any availability by text and ZSC email. Those tickets must be picked up at the bookstore by May 11.
The Campus Bookstore is hosting a Gradfest on April 18 and 19 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Stop in for your tickets, purchase your regalia and enter a drawing for prizes. There will also be discounts on select graduation items (diploma frames, T-shirts, grad tigers). NEW! At Spring Fest on April 20, stop by the Grad table to have your questions answered about Commencement.

Purchase a cap and gown.

Commencement regalia will be available for purchase beginning on April 18 at The Campus Bookstore or at the online shop. Available regalia includes caps, gowns, and tassels. Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) regalia will be available for purchase, as well.

All participants must wear a black cap and gown. Your tassel color will reflect your program. Caps, gowns, and tassels are available for $37.85. Gold honor cords (for those who are eligible) are $14.92. These prices do not include tax.

Confirm your name.

Make sure your name is spelled correctly before we print the commencement program. Detailed instructions are coming soon. If corrections are needed, email registrar@zanestate.edu via your ZSC email.

Resolve outstanding obligations.

Diplomas and transcripts will not be released to you until all account holds are resolved. This includes debts to the college, library fines, and incomplete financial aid exit counseling.

  • Resolve financial holds with the Business Office. Email businessoffice@zanestate.edu if you have any questions or need assistance.
  • Complete Financial Aid Exit Counseling at studentaid.gov. This is required by law for students with a Federal Stafford loan and your official transcript will be held until you complete this process. Email financialaid@zanestate.edu if you have questions or need assistance.

Day of Commencement

When

May 12, 2022
Line-up: 5 p.m.
Commencement ceremony: 6 p.m. (Note: Petition said 6:30 p.m.)

Where

Secrest Auditorium
334 Shinnick St.,
Zanesville, OH 43701

We are excited to announce that we will be hosting our annual Commencement in-person at Secrest Auditorium. For family and friends unable to attend, tune back in to this page for a Facebook Live Stream.

The construction on I-70 is ongoing. You can stay up-to-date on the I-70 construction and ramp closures here.

Arrival Time and Line-up

You should arrive at Secrest Auditorium at 5 p.m. and proceed directly to the check-in area at the Shinnick Street door. Here you will pick up your reader card. When it’s time to line up, graduates will be divided into three groups:

  • Division of Business, Engineering, and Information Technology
  • Division of Health and Public Service
  • Division of Arts and Sciences

Look for signage for where you need to stand. We will have assistants on site for any questions. If you are getting two or more degrees, choose which division you prefer. You will be able to sit with your friends and you will shake hands with a division dean when you walk across the stage.

After Commencement

Following Commencement, graduates will have the opportunity to participate in a favored tradition: The Graduation Gauntlet. You will walk through a celebration tunnel where faculty and staff applaud and cheer. The Graduation Gauntlet, along with photo opportunities, will take place in the basement of Secrest Auditorium immediately following the ceremony. This will conclude your special day.

After Graduation

Receiving Your Diploma

Your graduation requirements will be reviewed and verified by the Registrar at the end of the semester when all grades have been finalized. Diplomas and certificates will be mailed to graduates with no account hold approximately six to eight weeks after the end of the graduation term to the address on file. Multiple attempts to mail diplomas will not be made; diplomas returned by the post office will need to be picked up in person at the Registrar’s Office.

Note: Students are not official graduates until the successful completion of the graduating term. An official transcript from the College is the official testimony of a conferred degree.

Completing the Grad Survey

The Final Destination Survey asks about your future plans. This information is used to evaluate the career readiness policies and procedures at ZSC. All participants are eligible to win an Apple iPad! Take the survey here.
